On Doctor Who: The Key to Time: The Androids of Tara the Doctor is shown in the opening scene playing chess with his computer dog K-9.
Romana reminds the Doctor that the Guardian sent them on an urgent mission to find the Key to Time. The Doctor simply responds with he has decided to take a little break as they already have 3 of the 6 pieces of the key. So what does any of this have to do with Lost? Remember after they enter the Flame station and Locke finds the chess computer?
Locke simply goes off on his own to play chess with the computer (just as the Doctor decides to take a break). Even after Mikhail proves to be the enemy and Locke is tasked to guard him he still goes off and plays chess allowing Mikhail to temporarily escape.
I do hand it to the writers and producers they wasted nothing. They just didn't figure on someone like me spilling the beans!!!
