Everyone has been telling
me that Doctor Who has nothing to do with purgatory. Well I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t but
I know exactly where they got the idea and they just expanded upon it. If you listen to the director’s commentary at
the beginning of Doctor Who: The Key to Time: The Ribos Operation you will hear
the following comments made by Tom Baker and Mary Tamm. They played the Doctor and Romana in the
series.
Tom Baker: I think I
suggested that he should appear behind a burning bush
Mary Tamm: Oh that’s right
Tom Baker: But they
thought it would be blasphemous.
Mary Tamm: Oh
Tom Baker: Cause God used
to do that
Mary Tamm: Yea, but the
music’s very (ahh) religious the old, old organ going away there.
The “he” that the Doctor
is referring to is the White Guardian (i.e. God). The bright light streaming into the TARDIS is
the bright light in Christianity that believers equate to being in the presence
of God. Mary Tamm referring to the organ
music playing and being religious makes you think of being in a church. The White Guardian warns the Doctor to be
aware of the Black Guardian (i.e. the Devil).
From this you don’t have to be a genius to know how they came up with
the idea of purgatory.
Screen Captures: Doctor Who: The Key to Time: The Ribos Operation
After the Doctor speaks to
the White Guardian and volunteers to retrieve the segments to the Key to Time he
then goes on one of the greatest adventures of the Doctor Who franchise in my
opinion.
Screen captures: The End
Christian Shepard never
really tells Jack where they are going but responds with “Let’s go find out.” Some people see death as not the end but the
beginning to what can be described as wondrous. I like to think that they all went on the experience the next great adventure. There is no question in my mind that the ending of Lost is simply the
writers interpretation of the beginning of Doctor Who.
When Christian
opens the doors to the church the same light floods through the church the same
as it did in the Doctor’s TARDIS. Lost
is nothing more than a clever REMAKE, plain and simple!!!
After reading this do you believe that
Lost was a remake? Please leave me your
