Why everything turned out bad on Lost as compared to Doctor Who

On Doctor Who he always gets into the direst of circumstances but everything usually works out in the end.  There is the occasional tragedy but for the most part there is a happy ending.  This can be said of both the Face of Evil as well as the Key to Time series that Lost is based upon.  But all you Lost fans know that it didn’t turn out to be so happy of an ending because as Ben said to Sun “Dead is dead. You don't get to come back from that, not even here.”

So why did the writers and producers take such a 180 degree turn on Lost.  I have examined both shows thoroughly and since I know how the writers think it came from something that K-9 said right before they were to go down to the planet of Atrios on Doctor Who: The Key to Time: The Armageddon Factor.

We all wanted to be optimistic and believe that everything would work out for the characters that we had grown attached to. The writers however took a more realistic viewpoint of life in that you don't make it out alive.  That is what made it so enjoyable because no matter who you are you have experienced or will experience some tragedy given enough time.

After reading this do you believe that Lost was a remake?  Please leave me your feedback.
