Romana: Shall we have a look at Calufrax now?
Doctor: Ah let’s get it over with. Horrible place. Cold, wet, icy. No life of any sort. Boring.
But when they look at the view screen they see that it is a nice weather outside. The Doctor is perplexed but realizes that the coordinates are indeed right and they set off to investigate. The same thing happens only in reverse on Lost. When a group sets off for higher ground to get a signal on the transceiver they are suddenly faced with something that shouldn’t exist on their “tropical” island “A Polar Bear”. Like I keep saying they just used significant pieces of Doctor Who: The Face of Evil, The Key to Time and The Key to Time 2 audio books and just shook things up and came up with Lost. I challenge any of the writers to defend themselves against anything that I have written!
Since I think I know how the writers of Lost think the true inspiration of the Polar bear was the Taran beast in the Key to Time: The Androids of Tara. Although it was black the writers choose something that they could represent it on Lost. If you were a true Lost fan you know that they had this whole black-white motiff going on. So there you have it the reason why polar bears were on the island
